How to change WeChat password？

It’s really a challenge to remember so many passwords. And it could happen when you try to login to your WeChat account, it says your password is not correct. Or your account is logged in but you want to change the password. In this article, I will show you how to change your password or reset your password on WeChat.

Case one: Change the password when your WeChat account logged in.

In this case, you can change your account directly. Actually, you can log in to your WeChat account by your phone number and SMS code. But I don’t recommend you to use this way, because it will more tricky when you lost your phone number. So I highly recommend you all setting password for your WeChat account.

1. The first things you need to do is go to the Account Security.
   Tapping [Me] at the bottom of the screen.
2. Then you need to click on the [Settings] icon.
3. Clicking on the [Account Security] and then you will see the [Password] option.
   That’s what we need. Click on that Password. And then you can change the password.

In this section, you will be required to enter your old password. And then you can enter your new password. What if you forgot your old password? In that case, you can’t change your password by this method. You might need to see my another way below. So let’s continue the last steps here.

4. Entering your old password into the filed.

5. After that, you can enter your new password. And don’t forget to enter your new password again to confirm your password.

The password must be between 4-16 characters. Acceptable characters include letters, numbers, dash, and underscore.

6. The last step is clicking on the [Done] on the top right corner of the screen.

NOTE: For your WeChat account’s safety, you can’t change WeChat password on a new device within 3 days. Or your account has been unblocked or unfroze these two days. You need to wait for about 3 days to change your password.

Case two: Can’t log in to WeChat account and need to request WeChat account recovery.

You were told that incorrect account/password or wrong combination of account and password. This is what have been through. Actually, the password I entered was correct. But I still can’t log in to WeChat account. The reason is that WeChat account didn’t link to any phone number. The old phone number is no longer used and my phone number has linked to one WeChat account. So, I don’t have another phone number to link to WeChat account.

So this method is for users who forgotten your account or password and need to recovery WeChat account.

How to reset or retrieval WeChat password?

Click on the pop-up [Help]. And then you need to tap the blue words [Request Account Recovery].

Next, you need to check the [Terms of Service] and then click on [Request].

Now you will go to the Request password retrieval page. it says you are unable to log in to WeChat via the mobile number, QQ ID or email linked to WeChat and you’ve forgotten the password.

And the result(New password) will be sent to your mobile via SMS within 24 hours. This new password is generated randomly not by you.

Click on the green icon [Request]. Then you need to choose which ways you want to request. If you forgot your WeChat ID, you need to choose [I forgot my WeChat IS] option. If you still remember your WeChat ID, then you need to choose the [I still remember WeChat ID] option.

So, what you need to do is tapping the [Still remember WeChat ID]. After that, you need to enter your WeChat ID and a phone number that can receive the SMS message.

NOTE: You need to tap the blue digit to select your region code. And what you need to know is this phone number could be anyone as long as it could receive the SMS message. Which means, this phone number doesn’t need to be linked to your WeChat account.

NOTE again:  Ignore the SMS code and enter the characters as image shows. That SMS code doesn’t correct, that’s the WeChat’s bug just ignore that and then click on [Next].

This step is really important, please read carefully.

The screen will show you SMS contents and receiver. What contents you need to send is behind the Edit SMS, mine is [zm], and receiver is behind the Send to, mine is [10690700367]. Check out your screen and follow the instruction.

Once you’ve sent the SMS to WeChat, then you need to click on [SMS Sent. Next] and then your request successful.

The last thing you need to is saving the information, your WeChat ID and new password. The information will be sent to your phone via SMS, but it could be shown in Chinese. So, please save the information by yourself.

NOTE: As I said, the new password was generated randomly, and you can’t change your new password within 2 or 3 days.
