Set up a password for Weibo

Weibo is one of the popular social medias in China. But now, there are many foreigners who want to use Weibo. There is a question you want to know, how do I set a password for Weibo account?

There’s no option for you to set up a password when you’re signing up for Weibo at all. Because you might just create Weibo account via SMS code. So the password setting up step isn’t showing up at all.

Besides, you can’t find set-up password option, don’t know where the password setting is. Actually, you can set up a password for Weibo account. No matter you’re using the English version of Weibo or the Chinese version of Weibo, even Weibo webpage.

The problem is no matter which App you’re using, seems like Weibo doesn’t fully translate their platform. The password setting is in Chinese. That’s insane! The English version of Weibo still has Chinese characters!

And this freaking weird thing has been a while (many years). If they can’t translate it, why not ask me to help them. Or ask a kid to translate it!

Why you need to set up a password for Weibo

I’m not sure how many Chinese social media you’re using. Or how many articles you read on my website. As I said often, Chinese social media all need to provide the phone number to create an account. Because it’s a good way to prevent spammers and scammers.

If you login to account via SMS code, then it’ll be very frustrating when you change your phone number (you don’t use the old people number). In this case, you may never get your account back as you can’t prove your identity.

In other words, your account might be blocked or hacked by others.

Besides, setting up a password will make it easy to log in Weibo account. Why? Because the SMS code may be not easy to get especially for foreigners.

How to set up a password for Weibo

To save your time, I will show you how to set up a password for Weibo on Weibo international App (English version of Weibo).

Step 1 : Login to Weibo app

Tap the three lines icon [≡] on the top-left corner. And then click on [Login].

Step 2 : Click on the three lines icon [≡].

Step 3 : Click on [Settings].

Step 4 : Tap [Account Security].

Step 5 : Click on [修改密码].

Step 6 : Enter the password you want to set up.

Step 7 : Click on [完成].

Step 8 : Click on [Login to Proceed].

And then, you might get an alert like 404 not found, verification failed, Please try again. You can just ignore that alert.

Step 8 : Login Weibo with new password.

If you can log in Weibo account via a new password, which means you setting up password for Weibo successfully. However, in most cases, you might need login verification again.

Step 9 : To get a SMS verification code by clicking on [获取短信验证码].

Step 10 : Enter SMS verification code and then click [确定].
