---|---|---|
是[shì] | is/am/are | |
叫[jiào] | to call, to be called | |
名字[míng zi] | name |
Pattern 1 : 我是 + name
This is the most used way to introduce yourself in China. “我是”=”I am”.
Pattern 2 : 我叫 + name
This is the HSK test used pattern. In HSK, prefer to use 叫 to 是. So if you need HSK test then you should practice this pattern more. It doesn’t means this is the standard way to introduce yourself. Those are all you need to learn. “我叫”= “I called”
Pattern 3 : 我的名字叫 + name
This pattern is more standard and formal. 我的名字叫=my name is
Pattern 4 : 我的名字是 + name
Same as before, “我的名字是”=”my name is”. In terms of grammar, this is the last two are more standard. But the previous two is what we most used in our life.
So now you must know how to say “his name is ” and “my mother’s name is” , right? Just use one of these patterns.
